Brief Guide to RTTL

Last year, we had 250 schools and 46,000 students take part with their whole year 7 cohort, culminating in 9 optional Area Final competitions at the end of the summer term. Here is a brief overview of the challenge for 2025:

  • The challenge can be conducted within 5 hours (which is how the Area Finals are done). The build can be done in 3 hours and the race can be done in 2.

  • The timing gate and launcher build can be delegated to clubs or if you have time, in lesson. Apart from these two things, the kit we send will contain all the things you will need for the challenge. Df you have the time and resources you can make other components like your own wheels or 3d pritned nose cones

  • Look at our Resources page for build templates, lesson plans and risk assessments, and the Videos for the RTTL CPD

  • The Area Finals are optional and take place at the end of June/beginning of July. We will be asking at least one school per UK region to host

  • The 5 year pathway: one challenge per year group as they progress (RTTL in the first year, then RTTL and DTTL in the second, then RTTL, DTTL and HTTL in the third etc…)

  • Please see the presentation for the overview of this pathway

Please see our FAQs if you have any other queries, or book a meeting with our Schools’ Manager

I find the projects very accessible to students of all levels, from our most gifted to working with students from our partnership special school
